On November 4th, the Pangoal Institution held forum on “Trump’s Visit to China and China-US relations” and Project Releasing Conference. The forum was hosted by Senior Fellow of the Pangoal Institution and Senior Political Commentator Xu Qinduo, President of the Pangoal Institution Yi Peng first expressed a warm welcome to a number of experts who gathered in the Pangoal Institution. Mr.Yi Peng quoted President Xi Jinping as saying: "We have a thousand reasons to do a good job in China-U.S. Relations." To develop China-U.S. Relations, we need new ideas and cooperation. Only by benefiting each other can we move forward on a win-win basis.

During thematic speaking, Senior Advisor of Advisory Committee, the Pangoal Institution and President, Institute of International and Strategic Studies, Peking University Wang Jisi shared his thoughts about his visit to the U.S.  President Wang Jisi argued that though there are differences between China and the U.S., they have shared concern in regional and international affairs. The development of China-US relations not only need their intention to cooperate but also need to strengthen mutual understanding.

Subsequently, Jiang Feng, Senior Fellow of the Pangoal Institution, released the Pangoal Institution strategic report – “ ‘the Belt and Road Initiative’ and the Construction of a New Type of China-U.S. Relationship”. In the context of the transformation of China-U.S. Relations, the" Belt and Road " countries may create new opportunities for cooperation. Jiang Feng pointed out that " the Belt and Road Initiative " is the main starting point and platform for China to advance "the grand strategy of strengthening the nation" in the new era. It has become increasingly prominent in its "crossings" with China-U.S. Relations. The Belt and Road initiative provides an important opportunity for China and the United States to build a new type of relationship. The U.S. government strategic circles paid more attention to the "Belt and Road Initiative", and a new trend of adjustment of coping strategies has emerged. The report pointed out: President Trump's first visit to China has provided an important opportunity for China and the United States to deepen their strategic communications and expand the "cooperation agenda." The "Belt and Road Initiative" is expected to serve as a new platform for promoting the positive development of China-U.S. Relations. The report emphasizes that China and the United States can work together in promoting unofficial "third party cooperation," in the international mechanism level and in the security field in order to achieve the benign formation of the interactive relations between China and the United States under the framework of "Belt and Road Initiative".

During the ensuing roundtable discussions, participants went on to conduct a comprehensive and in-depth discussion on the opportunities and challenges that China-U.S. relations face and how the two countries should control competition and expand cooperation. Participants said that in the coming decades, the U.S. factor and the China-U.S. relations will be one of the most important variables that affect China's development environment. Both China and the United States need to make unremitting efforts to explore ways of mutual respect and mutual benefits. The "Belt and Road Initiative" advocates the principle of achieving shared growth through discussion and collaboration, which highlights China's "global leadership of bringing romance to a happy ending." In the next phase, it is necessary to handle the difficult issues such as the relations between "countries along the line" and "related countries," including the realization of China-US cooperation under the "Belt and Road" framework. The success of the forum demonstrated the innovative practices of the Pangoal Institution as a representative of China's social think tank on the exploration of Sino-U.S. relations. The Pangoal Institution will continue to play its research expertise in the "Belt and Road Initiative" and other related fields in the future and will provide more powerful intellectual support for the steady and healthy development of China-US relations and promoting the diplomacy of big powers with Chinese characteristics.
