November 23, 2017: How will China-ROK Relations Develop during the Transitional Period? Scholars of the Pangoal Institution was Invited to Attend "the Forth ROK-China Policy and Academic Forum"

On November 23th, Ajou University of ROK hosted "the Forth ROK-China Policy and Academic Forum" and several intellectual scholars of the Pangoal Institution were invited to attend the conference.

 

The Forum, organized by Chinese Policy Studies Institute of Ajou University, is one of the most influential research conferences in ROK and has now held four sessions. With the theme of "ROK -China relations during the transition period", this session hopes to promote the policy academic exchanges between China and ROK by building a platform for communication and exchange between key think tanks and research institutions of both China and ROK, and make positive contributions to the development of China-ROK relations in the new era.

 

At the opening ceremony, president of Ajou University welcomed the arrival of experts and wished the conference a complete success. Prof. Kim Heung-kyu, director of China Studies Institute at Ajou University and advisor of Cheong Wa Dae made an opening statement. He briefly introduced the basic situation of the conference and emphasized the importance of academic exchanges between China and ROK for the two countries’ relations. He hoped experts could fully communicate with each other and contribute to the development of the relations between China and ROK.

 

At the meeting, Pangoal scholars delivered keynote speeches on the key issues of Sino-ROK relations. Mr. Zhang Tuosheng, Senior Advisor, Advisory Committee of the Pangoal Institution and Chairman, Academic Committee, China Foundation for International and Strategic Studies analyzed the "Peninsula situation facing the nuclear crisis in North Korea and the policy of China and ROK". Academic Committee Member, the Pangoal Institution; Wang Dong, Secretary-General of Academic Committee, the Pangoal Institution and Deputy Executive Director, Institute for China-US People-to-People Exchange, Peking University discussed the importance of "Initiating the Trilateral Dialogue between China and ROK in due Course." Pang Zhongying, Academic Committee Member, the Pangoal Institution and Distinguished Professor, Ocean University of China and Dean, Ocean Development Research Institute, Ocean University of China analyzed "the Maritime Relations between China and ROK". Liang Yabin, Senior Fellow, the Pangoal Institution and Associate Professor, the International Strategic Research Institute, Party School of the CPC Central Committee shared his view on "the Future and Choice of the DPRK Nuclear Crisis". Kim Jin Ho, Academic Committee Member, the Pangoal Institution; Vice President of Korean Association of International Studies, 2017 and Professor, Dankook University discussed the "Multilateral and Bilateral Factors that Determine the China-ROK relations." While conducting keynote speeches, Pangoal scholars also comprehensively and deeply discussed with other experts from both China and ROK on various important issues concerning China-ROK relations in the current period.

 

During the meeting, Secretary Wang Dong was interviewed by South Korea's JoongAng Ilbo. In the interview, Secretary Wang Dong expressed views on relations between China and ROK and North Korea's nuclear issue.
