Pangoal Delegation Visited Former US Assistant Secretary of Defense

From February 12th to 13th, the Pangoal delegation visited former US Assistant Secretary of Defense James Shinn, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs and professor at Princeton University Thomas J. Christensen, Co-Director of the International Relations Program at the University of Pennsylvania Frank Plantan, Director of the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania Dr. James G. McGann, International director of Business Research Institute at the University of Chester Henry Sun, Senior Fellow at the Pangoal Institution and Stephen A. Cozen Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Jacques deLisle.

The delegation includes Senior Adviser of the Advisory Committee at the Pangoal Institution and Chairman of the Academic Committee, China Foundation for International and Strategic Studies Zhang Tuosheng, Secretary General of the Academic Committee at the Pangoal Institution Zhou Xiaoguang, Member of Academic Committee of the Pangoal Institution and Scholar on History of China Reformation and Strategy Xue er and fellow at the Pangoal Institution Wei Liping.


On February 12th, the delegation left Washington for Philadelphia. The delegators had a discussion with Director of the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania Dr. James G. McGann and student representatives and exchanged ideas and thoughts on topics like Sino-US relation, think tank building and future developments.


In the afternoon of 13th, the delegation met with Co-Director of the International Relations Program at the University of Pennsylvania Frank Plantan, International director of Business Research Institute at the University of Chester Henry Sun, Pangoal Institution’s Senior Fellow and Stephen A. Cozen Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Jacques deLisle and discussed mutual concerns of Sino-US relation.


After the meeting, Senior Advisor of the Advisory Committee at the Pangoal Institution Zhang Tuosheng presented the letter of appointment of Senior Fellow to Prof. Henry Sun. Prof. Henry Sun is International Director and visiting professor of Business Research Institute at the University of Chester, Adjunct Professor at School of Management of New York Institute of Technology, Fellow at Rothermere American Institute at the University of Oxford, American Studies Center at Peking University, Asian Studies Center at Paris Institute of Political Science, Harvard Kennedy Center.

In the evening, the delegation was invited to dinner reception at former US Assistant Secretary of Defense James Shinn’s home, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs and professor at Princeton University Thomas J. Christensen also joined the dinner. They had an in-depth conversation of mutual concerns, such as the future of Sino-US relation.

Prof. Thomas J. Christensen has served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs from 2006 to 2008 with responsibility for relations with China and Mongolia. He is regarded as an outstanding representative of Mesozoic China expert in the United States.
